artist housing | design studio| bronx| 2012

This proposed project is public housing for artists living in the Bronx. Instead of doing a vertical high-rise, a horizontal form connecting the existing apartment buildings with the existing Bronx Museum is the strategy. The proposed dynamic roof acts as a "umbrella" to bridge the existing buildings, encouraging interaction and negotiation between them. Also, the dynamic roof "cracks" creates skylights for light and air. The angular vocabulary of the existing facade of the Bronx Museum is continued with the proposed housing creating socially dynamic and interactive spaces.
